A Spitzer Warm Mission Ultra-Wide Survey As A Target Finder For The James Webb Space Telescope
نویسندگان
چکیده
The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is the successor to the Hubble and Spitzer Space Telescopes. It has a broad scientific mission which includes spectroscopic studies of the epoch of reionization through observations of z > 8 quasars. The Spitzer warm mission provides a unique opportunity to conduct an infrared survey of several hundred square degrees to a depth of several micro-Janskys, capable of finding quasars out to z = 10. Deep JWST continuum spectroscopy of these quasars will establish the epoch and history of the Universe through detection of the GunnPeterson trough and/or Lyman-α damping wings. The statistics and luminosity function of high-z quasars will reveal the early history of accretion in the most extreme systems, providing insights in the role of black holes in galaxy evolution. Data obtained from an ultra-wide warm Spitzer survey will also be useful for other science, including studies of high-redshift galaxy clusters.

Overview of James Webb Space Telescope and NIRCam's Role
The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is the scientific successor to both the Hubble Space Telescope and the Spitzer Space Telescope. It is envisioned as a facility-class mission. The instrument suite provides broad wavelength coverage and capabilities aimed at four key science themes: 1)The End of the Dark Ages: First Light and Reionization; 2) The Assembly of Galaxies; 3) The Birth of Stars a...
متن کاملThe Warm Spitzer Mission: Opportunities to Study Galactic Structure and the Interstellar Medium
The Spitzer Space Telescope Warm Mission capability, specifically broadband IRAC imaging at 3.6 and 4.5μm, provides a unique opportunity to probe the content and structure of the Milky Way’s disk, particularly along lines of sight that suffer significant interstellar obscuration. This white paper examines the factors that favor and constrain the application of a warm Spitzer to Galactic structu...
متن کاملModifications to the warm Spitzer data reduction pipeline
The Spitzer Space Telescope Infrared Array Camera (IRAC) basic calibrated data reduction pipeline is designed to take a single raw frame from a single IRAC detector and produce a flux-calibrated image that has had all well-understood instrumental signatures removed. We discuss several modifications to the pipeline developed in the last two years in response to the Spitzer warm mission. Due to t...
متن کاملPulsating red giant and supergiant stars in the Local Group dwarf galaxy Andromeda I
We have conducted an optical long-term monitoring survey of the majority of dwarf galaxies in the Local Group, with the Isaac Newton Telescope (INT), to identify the long period variable (LPV) stars. LPV stars vary on timescales of months to years, and reach the largest amplitudes of their brightness variations at optical wavelengths, due to the changing temperature. They trace stellar populati...
متن کاملMicrolens Parallax Measurements With A Warm Spitzer
Because the Spitzer Space Telescope is in an Earth-trailing orbit, losing about 0.1 AU/yr, it is excellently located to perform microlens parallax observations toward the Magellanic Clouds (LMC/SMC) and the Galactic bulge. These yield the so-called “projected velocity” of the lens, which can distinguish statistically among different populations. A few such measurements toward the LMC/SMC would ...
